I'll say it straight, the chaps on The Escapist aren't quite as compassionate and honest as my fellow furries. <3
But I was actually pretty upset (That means something, coming from me) when someone said that being bisexual is fashionable, and that's the only reason I'm bi.
What in the name of fuzzy felt is going on!? As people have less of a problem with homophobia, more people are coming out with it! it doesn't make it a fashion statement! :?

I've heard that generalization going around for a while. And I'm sure some people do claim they're bi just because it's "popular." But then people who hear that kind of stuff often fail to realize that some people do, doesn't mean everyone does.
-
Yay, someone else noticed this!
My dad is one of those people who think most people who say they are bi or gay are doing it for attention. Although it is true that people do that, that doesn't mean every bi or gay person says they are for that reason.
I have a friend who is bi, and when I blurted out something about her going to a party with her girlfriend while chatting with my dad, he had this big rant about how she just wants to look cool and stuff like that. She is actually not very open about her sexuality. After that I decided to refrain from telling him about me possibly being bisexual.
It's sad that the people who DO treat their sexuality as a way to get noticed end up ruining everything for the people who simply are gay or bi.
I blame the media.
And stupid people.
And the media.

although saying that some people are unsure about their sexuality so it might just be confusion manifested in a more physical form

Don't forget the media.
But if you start to consider people who DO use their sexuality for attention, you also have to bear in mind that most people who would do this are straight as an arrow, they just want to be noticed. Some people would do anything for attention. In this case, they're willing to give bi people a bad reputation for the sense of self satisfaction.

Yeah, I know. There are plenty of those people at school. They're straight, and you can tell they are straight, but they feel the need to go around saying they are gay or bi. It's like, you go up to one of those people and say "Hello, it's nice to meet you." and they go, "Hay, I'm [insert name here], and I'm gay! :D". Like that's really important to know.
No one does that if they really are gay. People don't even do that if they're straight!

And if they did, I'd assume they were having a go at me like "I'm straight, so stop hitting on me!"
That's happened to me before. I was tempted to "hit on" them in a different way...

should of played along to be ebil >:3

I was on a GSA forum the other day and this came up, people where saying part of the reason they didn't want to tell people of their bisexuality was because it was 'popular' now and it would seem like they where just another person following the trend for popularity.
-
My parents tried to tell me that I was trying to get attention when they decided I was gay (I'm bi, actually) and I wanted to break a few faces after that.
It really sickens me, sometimes. Between being furry and bi, it's like a "you just want attention" fest around here...
I DON'T WANT TO BE POPULAR!!! WHY CAN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND THAT????!!!???
-
Although I admit that I haven't seen much of this, the very thought of it alone certainly angers me. Not only do people still not get it, but those that are causing this issue are so selfish as to make things difficult for a sizeable chunk of the world's population for no other reason than to get attention!? That's just disgusting.
I guess I'm lucky that I haven't seen much of this going about where I live. I'd certainly feel compelled to punch a few faces if it was as bad here as it is elsewhere >:(

Iphone, designer sunglasses, expensive clothing.. Thats all fashion, but being gay or bi? :/
Although im straight, i have a few friends who are gay, one of them i speak almost daily .
Besides the occasional "your gay / well your a furry" jokes he never brings it up.
I Think people who constantly bring up the fact that their gay,bi,furry, emo or whatever, are indeed attention seekers.
Then it doesn,t really matter if they are actually gay,bi,furry,emo.............

If brought up in a clever context it can be totally adorable :3
Or seriously scary.... My freind Michaela brings it up occasionally just to scare me and kitty :S (Kitty isn't bi... and Michaela is adorably frightening......)

I can't stand those ppl.... >:( I mean if you where actually *insert stereotypical tag here* then why do you need to keep reminding your self that, I mean no one else actually cares
-
The whole 'it's just for attention' thing. Well, some people do that, yeah. I don't get why a person would even date a person of the same sex if they were straight just for the sake of ATTENTION! I mean it's totally ridiculous. I'm bi and the LAST thing on my mind is popularity/attention. Like, really. I don't understand most people at all, except for a few close friends. Speaking of the whole bi is fashionable thing I think my cousin is falling into that and she doesn't even realize it. *Sigh*

There's also the problem of parents and the old "It's a phase" thing.
-
O I hate that so much they are always like o your not gay, bi, your going through a phase and your confused
