Title: Sunset over Arabia
Post by: x on June 16, 2010, 08:10:51 PM
There's something you should know about me before I even try to get started on this....I'm a slow, calm person. I do not take to immobile schedules, not to mention that my internet access gives me trouble anyway. So, no, I did not give up on my old two RPs and I don't plan on it...they will just move at a slower pace than what ya'll are used to. Aaaand, moving on, this is an idea I've had for a roleplay for literally months, even before I joined this site. I really hope people like it...I tried.  :'( This will be similar to Aladdin, but a much more hard-core Aladdin. I am in serious need for ideas for this! My idea-o-tron is running low on fuel so I only managed to come up with for the story what you read below. If you have ideas for me, please throw them out there! Because as it is now...the story sort of is fail!...it needs your creative input.

Sunset over Arabia
An Arabian Nights Roleplay

Story

Long ago, on the far edge of the Arabian desert, there rose from the dunes a great city named Agrabah, that gleamed golden under the high-set sun. Agrabah was ruled by a single man, whom they called a Sultan. He had a single daughter named Du'a', who was to be wed upon the coming of her eighteenth birthday. The Sultan was a well-loved, generous, caring man who wanted nothing more for his people than happiness....But more often than not he couldn't supply this. For the police were corrupted. They seemed to care more about themselves than actually getting rid of crime, and because of this, crime rates continued to grow and grow, disheartening the poor Sultan ever so.

Though...not all was peril among the sand and sun....It seems that...by the rumors of tavern-dwellers and wise gypsies, that the Cave of Wonders has been discoverd, hidden in a mirage in a distant part of the desert. And...by the by....it is told that, deep inside that cave you will find a Lamp, a Lamp that will grant you three wishes, anything in the world that you so desire. Ultimate power and riches, divinity and love, anything you want.

But finding the Cave of Wonders is more difficult than it seems. Mystic booby traps and unusal desert monsters block passage. Not only that, but everyone and their brother seems to want the Lamp for themselves. The Sultan wants it so that he can grant peace and happiness to the world. The corrupted police and guards want it to fulfill their own evil ends, and don't even get me started on the mystic wishes of the gypsies.

Will you manage to find the Lamp? And, if you do, what will you wish for?

Anything seems to be possible in this roleplay of ancient times...

Rules

Entaru and Chrono will be my co-GMs.

*No Godmodding/Powerplaying.
*Give people a fair fighting chance, whether that be to catch up or in an actual duel/scrap. Even if your character is cruel when fighting, give your adversary a sliver of a chance to at least stand up or something.
*This is in ancient times. Nothing modern, aka people are riding on horses and are buying things with coin.
*Must approve you before you post.
*Sasha/Entaru/Chrono are in charge of both the desert wilds and the Sultan. If something is to happen, they will make it happen.
*If you choose to give your character a high rank (i.e. a member of the royal court or a high ranking trader), consult Sasha before having them do anything huge and game-changing,
* There will be no post order (because that makes life difficult and doesn't let people catch up in time), BUT you have to post every three days.
*It will be understood that I tend to epically fail so if I screw up somewhere, don't hesitate to tell me...
* Be nice, no haters, and have fun!

Oh no, no, no, no....

I never said you couldn't have someone from out of Arabia. You can have someone from anywhere on the globe, and they can bring their weaponry with them too. ^^....I was thinking just no heavy-duty guns and stuff.

*Ding* finished

Name: Entaru Korin
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: Artic Fox (Artic in Arabia WTF??)
Appearance: 6'4" 180 lbs.  He has pure white fur and emerald green eyes.  His tail is approximately 8 ft long and his ears stand straight on end, adding 4 inches to his height.
Appearance Specifics/Details: Has a black, tribal tattoo curling around his arm which seems to almost crawl at times, shifting its shape slowly over time.  Its nature is recognizable only to those of the Cult of Parasites.  Not even he knows of its properties.
Clothing:  A pair of short red pants....that's it.

Weapons:Not really a fighter but carries a sickle for emergencies.
Skills/Trades: Skilled thief and acrobat.
Rank in Society: Low-Lower class...homeless.
Job/Occupation: Street rat

Magic: Glamour. (Tattoo creates an illusion around itself, making the viewer not notice it.  It is still visible, but is of no interrest to the viewer despite its size.  Always active.)  Devouring Worm. (Tattoo's true nature becomes apparent during major crisis.  The crawling ink is in reality a living creature beneath Entaru's skin.  Creature deforms body to an unrecognizable state, increasing his strength and reflexes exponentially.  Doesn't know how to implement it.)
Personality: Very apathetic towards the city around him, he steals what he can when he can.  He detests those who would try to harm others, whether they are muggers or over-zealous guardsmen, and quickly puts an end to them.
Bio:  His past is a mystery to even himself.  There are vague memories of an altar room and chanting but that is all.  All he remembers is waking up on the edge of Agrabah, 11 years ago and trying to scrape by.

Name: Horuus Bel'lazi
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Species: Sand Dragon ( ref: http://www.greygriffins.com/images/schools_RT_sandDragon02.jpg )
Appearance: 6' 8'' 210 lbs. Unusually buff for his race, but since few sand dragons actually live at Agrabah, few actually know that.
Appearance Specifics/Detail: His right eye has a 'tattoo' in the iris that glows while hes casting magic, his left eye is blank, causing a rumor in the palace that his right eye is the work of "demonic intervention"
Clothing: a black-red, knee-length cotton robe, with a matching pair of 'baggy' cotton leggings since silk irritates his scales.

Weapon(s): A stack of sinister-looking tarot cards.
Skills/Trades: Official: "Divination"; Unofficial: Sorcery
Rank in Society: Royal Court Member
Job/Occupation: Sultan's advisor

Magic: "Whatever the fates decree for thee"
Personality: Unusually sociable and kind for someone who is such a high rank, but regards those in his 'standing' with contempt with great exception towards the Sultan himself.
Bio: Raised as a blind Gypsy, Horuus was unusually good at predictions despite the fact that he couldn't even see the cards. However, he was able to come to Agrabah on a merchant's caravan as he used his divination skills to find a cart that didn't mind stow-aways. He arrived when the Sultan had announced he wanted someone to replace his previous advisor Moltan. Moltan didn't object since he was confident that his abilities would ensure his stay at the Sultan's side. But, through 'miracle after miracle' (explained in rp), Horuus had achieved tremendous growth in both the physical and the magical and ended up not only defeating Moltan, but forced him to confess his attempt at trying to usurp the throne. He then executed the ex-advisor painlessly when the sultan told him "Do what you think is best, Horuus"

*facepalm*  You gotta be freaking kidding, Chrono.
Hes a half-blind sand dragon that uses tarot cards to fight when the situation can't be solved conventionally...

I thought about a transformation, but I don't know how to weaken it to where its not overpowered, but not a waste of cards...

Now finish your character so we may argue on equal ground :S

Not that, the Jafar thing.  Leave out the name...it makes it sound corny.

Name: Jarzeth Hal'atair
Age: ? Old, insanely ancient
Gender: ?
Species: Sand Daemon (generally appears feline, though even this can change)
Appearance: Feline generally... under his/her disguise it looks like any other citizen... normally sandy colour fur, long ears and thick tail...
Appearance Specifics/Details: Two main disguises used, Kitt and Jess... 'Kitt' is a male feline with above description... 'Jess' is the less used disguise and is female with the same description...
Clothing: Dark red robes/cloak over a leather jerkin and dark cloth trousers, dark thigh length boots and a large belt (all just a disguise)...

Weapons: Visibly none, though Jarzeth can summon a number of different weapons using its magic depending on the situation...
Skills/Trades: None he is an ancient construct of sand and magic, what use is a job to him?
Rank in Society: A curse
Job/Occupation: Sand Daemon (ancient creature born of sand and magic, intent on capturing the fabled lamp for him/herself...)

Magic: Sand Magic, Jarzeth itself is made up mostly of magic, and is therefore rather resilient to normal attacks, but weak against other magic users.... basic magic includes simple shape-shifting... the creation of illusionary items from a mixture of magic and sand... as well as simple weapons... The most powerfull magic constitutes summoning of other sand creatures to do his bidding.... if he is badly injured any creatures or objects summoned turn back to regular sand...

Personality: Old, Very very old and hates everyone who is living... for life is the one thing he/she cannot have....
Bio: Jarzeth is a creature of ancient origins... some say Sand Daemons where originally summoned by some even greater creature... others whisper in dark alleys that they where once people, now cursed forever... Whatever its origins, Jarzeth wants only one thing... the fabled lamp... for with it the wish could be granted, of true life, and an end to its cursed existance... Jarzeth has travelled from city to city, following rumours, stories of where the lamp could be... now he comes to Agrabah, intent on finding it....

This is Jarzeth's true form, though even this can change and shift:

And a few of the basic kind of sand creatures... these he uses as slaves to do his bidding when he cannot... when killed they disintegrate back into sand.. he can also use them as a 'vessel'... like another body he can use or control... this is essentially what his two disguises, Kitt and Jess are which he uses when in cities or near other people:
(http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080527032737/princeofpersia/en/images/thumb/e/e0/Raider.jpg/300px-Raider.jpg)(http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080829185923/princeofpersia/en/images/thumb/d/d8/PiratesWW.jpg/250px-PiratesWW.jpg)(http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080829190404/princeofpersia/en/images/thumb/1/10/AssassinWW.jpg/250px-AssassinWW.jpg)

Yes i'm going prince of persia theme  ;)    I hope this is okay, Shasha and everyone else... i decided i wanted to do an evil character for once.... and you dont get more evil than a sand daemon!  At the begning of the RP Jarzeth will be really weak after all his traveling...

Not that, the Jafar thing.  Leave out the name...it makes it sound corny.
Well, I had to come up with a reason why a blind gypsy boy was able to become the Sultan's advisor... Besides, I think I got something for the cards that could out-do his previous abilities. I could do something involving Kitt's character, but beyond that.

The whole 'replacing evil advisor' was the best upbringing I could think of...

You can keep that...just leave out Jafar's name...it'll probably be assumed anyways but its better than being blatantly obvious.  Just say the previous advisor.

Oh, and you should be good Kitt.  Sasha may say otherwise but I doubt it.

You all are fine and are in.  ;)

I must agree with Entaru that we needed to get rid of the Disney character names. After all, my whole point with this was to pull the Aladdin story from 1,001 Nights, except for make it more serious...and by using Disney names I make it corny rather than serious, so I apologize. I changed my char's name because of that.

And I love the idea of a Sand Daemon...! Best costume...ever.
