Title: Gaming Harrassment
Post by: Arrant on June 13, 2010, 09:05:44 AM
I just got done with a server in Team Fortress 2, where as soon as I joined someone noticed my name had "Fox" in it, and immediately started with the usual judgemental bull. I don't mind that they call me a furfag and went on harrassing me for bestiality, the details NSFW. Now that's usual, but what really irked me was when someone went out of his way to join my team so that he could use MIC and would not stop insulting me, calling me a zoophiliac, and let's just say falsly telling me what my hobbies are with goats, pet cats, and foxes. Anyone know a way I can avoid having people get on my case about being a furry when all I want to do is sit down and play a game? It's seriously hindering my gameplay, as well as flaring my temper when I just want to play a game.

That's normally why I deactivate any type of voice so they can't hear me and I can't hear them, find servers that don't have voice active, and/or have voice-reception volume completely turned-down.

People will go out of their way to cause you trouble, you can mute them in TF2 (and other chat-systems/games with such systems). If you need help on how to do all of this, just ask.

Edit: Most of the options I just said are available in the Multiplayer and in the Audio options. To further put a "mute" on people, it takes a bit more time because you'd have to do it while they're playing in the same server as you. If such a person is harassing you, most servers have admins to them and they normally have ways to contact them.

Personally, and now this may not work for everyone, I just humour them, I tell them exactly what they DON'T want to hear. what they want you to do is whine to them, complain, cry and whatnot, if you go along with their insults they get bored very fast. I've even had a couple of people apologize to me in this way, of course I do this only if I'm in a good mood, when I'm in a not so good mood I just mute them. well, there's my two cents worth : )

Oh man I didn't know you could mute people, I'd love to know personally Vosur if you don't mind in pm or something. Arrant, that's why I stick with Furry Pride and Furry Pound servers *shrugs*. You could have at least said something critical about how this player wouldn't know the difference between an animal and a human when they are an animal pretending to be human with such behavior :P

Sorry to do this to you Golge, but your advice would give them the attention they'd so desire. Such people would only harass him further. He doesn't want them to harass him so he can continue playing the game without trouble.

Thanks guys, I'll make sure to use Vosur's and White's advice, Golge's if I'm in a good mood next time it happens  :3 Right now I'm using the server Furry Pound but I usually prefer 2 certain servers for their maps and quick spawn time xD Thanks again for the advice.

Simply just turning down the Voice receive will keep them quiet, no matter if All-Talk is active or not. As for Muting Players, the option is now available when you hit ESC while playing normally and from there you can Mute specific players.

Trolling while online gaming is a customary tradition. I won't lie, I do it sometimes when I find an easy target...but I like a challenge too. xD But dude, you have to remember that the internet is the internet. Nothing anyone says matters. Yeah, it's bullying but they don't even know you. They did invent the mute and block options for a reason.

Tell ya one thing tho, my PSN has been DesertFox92 for nearly 4 years now. I haven't had a SINGLE person make a furry comment at me. This one time one person said I should be called dessert box because I was so "scrumptious." I was flattered to be honest. Everyone likes to talk up a storm before a game. Nobody talks when they get owned at the end of it.

Mute them and murk them.

i don't know Lol. Furball is my name everywhere...X-Box Live, Forums....Heck it's even imprinted on the dog tags I had custom made

but I get called Furball all the time...mostly by non-furs or I get called Foxy by non-furs...an ex-mate  used Furball as  a nickname and it sorta stuck

Don't let it get to you, just think of it as trash talk, then proceed to decimate them ingame.
