i was forum browsing the other day and came across o topic on another furry forum called "genetic therapy". intrigued by the title, i decided to look at the post. the post was about using genetic therapy (or splicing, for all you Bioshock fans) to turn/morph/change into your fursona, or another anthromorphic creature.
and i was wondering, if the technoledgy existed, would you do it, splice up to become your fursona or some version of it?
-
i would give everything i own (cept my cat) to turn into my fursona. everything. >:(
-
I would rather splice myself with something more useful than fur and a tail. Something like hyper-advanced cell replication (healing) or enhance the amount of electricity i can generate (like in bioshock).
-
I personally would not do it, I would prefer a way to go between human and animal forms when desired.
-
I believe i may do it, But only if it's Temp, So i can change to my fursona, then be ok, after awhile(go back to human) then change back at anytime i wish.
-

Exactly what i was gunnna say XD
-
I would definitely get ears and a tail, but I don't know if I would go any further than that.
-
I would only do so if say 100 other people were doing it;
So many people jump straight into the idea without thinking of the consequences of being out casted by the rest/99% of humanity.
But if a large group of people decided to do it then you'd have friends in the world and someone/where to turn to.
-
I'd probably do it, but I'm a transhumanist so I already was making plans on how to do this with technology.....
But like Dessum said, I wouldn't want to be alone amongst a world of humans, but maybe some people would accept me anyway, I think there are nice people out there somewhere...... But I'm usually okay being alone anyway...
-
if the result of the genetic splicing made me thereinthropic then yes
-

I highly doubt you'll be casted away, i think it will just draw ATON of uneeded attention.
-

Me too. I would definitely want to be my fursona. I guess you would get a lot of (unwanted) attention from the rest of the world, but aside from that, sign me up!
To bad its just a fantasy...... ^_^
-
I would but knowing me I'd want to be a different fursona half a week later so meh :P
But other than that, definitely. I can deal with unwanted attention, just as long as it doesn't grab the attention of too many unwanted people :/
-
So I could turn into anything? hm... :o
-
My fursona can shapeshift so i would have no problem becoming it if i had the chance, i would take that chance! :P :P :P :D
-
i think most people dont consider that you would be an outsider, a celebrity, and oddball/freak, and possibly the only one in existence. i would definitely accept this to become my fursona though :), especially if there are others out there. also, i'd try to avoid contact with humans (i already do) because celebrities are already targets to obsessed fans and stalkers, im sure that being an anthropomorphic being would be the same or worse.
-
Yeah, I'd want it. Long as there are no side effects. :P
-
you mean other than the government hunting you down to de-splice you to figure out how to make their soldiers part bear so they can initiate a hostile takeover of the world cause everones like omg bear people!?
-
Hell yeah!
I'd give up electricity to be able to turn into my fursona.
-
I probably wouldn't go full on fur, but some ears and a tail, for sure. I really wish I had a tail ;) ;)

For me Based on the people that ive met on this forum id bet id get 2 go 2 lots of conventions for free, mabe even being paid, Id also win hands down on britans got talent, Id be able 2 fly so id be like OOwNAGE!!
Living in the wild would be ok, but id only bother with that for training, mostly id be the city typ, especially because there would be easier job openings for someone who would never be late for work and never have any traffic accidents, not to mention you would draw people 2 the business you worked at lol
-
It's possible to a certain extent.

If you haven't seen, you should watch the Animal Planet special, Humanimals.
As for me, I'm not entirely sure. To be honest, I don't think I would. I wear a tail, and a collar, and fangs, but i think thats as far as i go. Besides fursuiting. I might get into that. :D
-
That isn't actually splicing though, just cosmetic surgery to make you look physically similar to animals.
-
My true Scalie fursona can transform into 18 different forms 1 of which looks like a normal human, apart from the tail, o.O
Going for a semi furry or semi scalie looks kinda weird, fursuiting is good because its an extreme in one sense, duing what theyve done wouldn't be my bag, but if they r happy good 4 them.
-

true true... but that's why i said 'to a certain extent'
also, the cat man is looking into getting a tail, but it's not yet possible to have it attached to his spine so he can actually move it.
-
Depends if I get the amount of fluffiness as seen as the avvy. While being so cuddly can be an advantage it might draw too much attention to me :P

i second that.... ^_^

Oh hell yeah! :)

Sorry if I'm a bit of a let down, and this makes me very sad, but I think that splicing can only occur before a human is born. Maybe by 10-20 years they'll find a way, but any time soon I don't really see it happening. I'm probably going into the study.
-
You would be surprised what modern technology is coming to, it will be possible but it's more like 50+ years before it becomes realy useful, I wouldn't have bothered with this post if I didn't know enough, it will be possible, however it will be a long time before there are any useful things made from it.
-
I'm going way way far out here, but what about prosthetic anthro bodies? A little ghost in the shell logic here, but in time you could be able to move your mind into a prosthetic body. At the point of that development they'll definitely have some anthro bodies on the market. Still though 50-60 years into the future
-
Saw a movie about that, but was people bot's that were controlled, i know id hav ma Scalie as a bot, would be cool :D
-
I would give everything I own too, except for family members.... maybe........ Still I'm not talking about bein just a fox, I mean like the body shape and mind of a human, and everything else as a fox!

"Everybody wants prosthetic foreheads on their real heads." -- They Might Be Giants
Seriously though, I think you're looking at way more than 50-60 years. It's possible that there are reputable people out there saying otherwise, however, the general trend is that most futurists predict brain-download technology to become available at about the time they'll turn ~70 -- so, basically ten years before they'll really, really need it to show up if they don't want to miss out.
-
Well as long as our generation is alive!
-
Even if the technology does get created in our life time, we probably won't be around long enough to enjoy it.
-
Do you not think life prolonging technoledgy will be created in our lifetime? I will do everything I can to help it happen!
-
Do we really want to do that? I mean, we already live pretty freaking long. Plus, we're doing a little too well in population. I doubt it would be good to live very much longer. Honestly, I'd probably be sick of everything after 100 years.
I don't think it's very good of an idea to change into a being you're not. I think we should stay as the creatures we are now, because that's simply what we were born to be. Why change?
-
Life is change, What else is there to do!
Ive seen the technoledgy that is worked towards and expected, you might be sick of things that are around today, but many new things will be around by then and even if the world doesn't get anymore interesting then you would still take a very long time to see all of it anyway, there is always somthing else you can do, that is assuming you have the drive to, i understand there are people who aren't eager explorers and simply live in one place for their exsistence, but i still feel there is so much Left to do.
My solutions to absolute boredom are memory erasing, i personally wouldn't want to forget anything but do acknoledge that sometimes it migh be better to re-expirirence things.
Im sorry if im too posotive and hopeful, I am just extremely afraid of death and all, why face uncertainty when u can just live on knowing the next step?
-
yuh do it for the thrill ;)
-
I'd want my memory completely erased and to start life over as anthro, not just transition int being anthro as an adult.
-
that would be kool, Id only consider that if all my family had passed away or completely lost touch
-
yeah :/
Or if they had erased memory and anthro bodies too
-
with them saying yes of course ;)
-
Id love to be able to forget and then have a whole journey set out for me to remember, i know if i knew i had erased my memory id wan't to know what id forgotten
-
Exactly :3
-
*Shivers* i really hope they won't ever be successful with gene splicing T.T Just think about the consequences?
-
What consequences are you refering to, there could be many¬
-
"here we are doctor, subject 4586...."
"what was the outcome of the testing?"
"he became extremely violent and began to dismember the scientists within his chamber"
"i see.... let me see him...."
"ok" *pushes panel which opens the door to the chamber*
"where is he...."
"Good heavens! he has escaped! We must inform the security te- AAAAAARRRRKK"
"johnson! no no no....please i have a wife....i have a fami- AAAAH!" *flesh ripping noise*
^ i believe he meant that kind....
-
Fair possibility, resident evil; furry!
It would be dangerous but i think it is unlikely, im the type 2 be prepared for that, if it does happen, look me up and ill save you and close relatives lol :)
-
oh another possibility:
"his vital signs are stable"
"i see..."
"he is beginning to wake up!"
"is that supposed to happen"
"good lord no!"
"the extra adrenaline is interfering with the drugs to keep him asleep!"
"oh my god...."
*4 simultaneous snapping noises*
"he has broken free!"
*crack! rip! gash! stab!*
but yeah...the extra adrenaline would probably make test subjects hypo-violent :o
-
What else is adenaline good for lol
-
splice? (movie)
-
give me a minute to do my happy dance.... *carmell dansen* ^_^
turns out silver foxes have barely any adrenaline so therefore i would retain a large amount of my not-bitey-ness! ^_^
-
Adrenaline is good in emergencies!
-
yeah....no car lifting for me :(
-
A woman bent an iron girder with adrenaline once,it was do that or be burned 2 death, so she made a good choice!
-
some guy picked up a car to save someone underneath
back on topic!
but yeah it would be interesting, physical characteristics added to possible PTSD from the genetic therapy could have extremely variable results indeed!
-
I like the idea of partial before becoming fully a furry
Ears and tails definitely then maybe legs to waist as well
-
i'd probably get fangs, fox ears and a fox tail ^_^
-
I'd want to get full body fur, fox head, tails :D
-
What consequences are you refering to, there could be many¬
If they can splice a human to a furry. then im quite sure they could humans super humans too, For warfar and stuff.
and what if one of those superhumans went berserk? Not a nice sight im sure ,_,
-
the incredible hulk
-
I'd want to get full body fur, fox head, tails :D
''Man what a beautiful day *Falls into some old mud pile* Oh... son of a *''
Sometimes being able to switch back to human form is a much vaunted plus ^_^
-
one issue with having fur....bubblegum...... :o
-
I hav scales , no problem furr me!
-
but scales are creepy >:D
-
How offensive, that is realy racist!!
-
Leo, im sure that Datfox's last statement was not aimed to be offensive in any way....
besides....everyone is allowed to think what they want and a phobia of snakes/reptiles is very common.
and not everyone likes reptiles.
despite the facts that snakes are surprisingly huggable ^_^
ON TOPIC: yeah, the most difficult thing would be the social restraints e.g. some people could fear u, and the trolls would be able to identify you :o
-
It might be offensive, but im not offended, I like people having an opinion even if it conflicts my belief's
-
furr also has an advantage in the winter... :)
-
Can't argue with that ^_^, i would use the cold for training, not for living
-
don't scales protect u just a little bit or somethin?
-
Please stay on topic.
-
If somone had genetically spliced scales then they would be protected from damage more, if of coarse they took the scales from the right species
-
still genetic therapy can be very dangerous to you and everyone else
-
In the wrong hands yes it can, but I assure you my hands r good >:3
-
the real question would be: "are there more pros than cons?"
-
Actually I think one of the worst things would be that people would probably be scared of you, I mean, how would you react to see walking tigers walking down the street, or a draconian or something.
-
dude, your asking furries, im sure everyone here would luv it, although your point is valid for the majority.
-
if genetic splicing allows every furry to become their fursona then i would take 3 hours to get home every day....
e.g.: omg! *hug*.....omg! *hug*.....omg *hug*
oh and also wouldn't trolls like get shotguns and stuff?
and then form an extremist group or something?
-
theres actually a clan that kills furrys, its called KFC (killing furrys clan) lol I know it sounds like the chicken kind of KFC
-
i WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HELP KILLING HOSTILE TROLLS, but how many would go that far?
-
theres actually a clan that kills furrys, its called KFC (killing furrys clan) lol I know it sounds like the chicken kind of KFC
Well, now that seems pretty extreme o_0 Where did you hear about this chicken joint killer clan?
-
the worst bit would be sensitive hearing.... because with all the electronics you would just hear "BEEEEEP" all the time.... it would be like being a young kid again except you can hear EVERYTHING...
and privacy would suck..... your neighbours would be able to HEAR you....
oh and the whole extremist thing.... because a while ago no the internet i heard that a furry was killed by KFC but i never figured that was serious.....
-
Even if i had the chance i wouldn't become my fursona with this genetic therapy. (splicing) thing, I think my parent's WOULD shoot me every time i walk in
-
So your telling me thay couldn't have the capacity to be happy for you?
-
They never are, EVER
-
that's a shame, I know that my parents wouldn't think it was normal but they would be proud that i was what i wanted to be

Hope this helps o.o
-
if i became my fursona it would probably be about 30% to just tell the word "oi, im me, deal with it!"
then about 4 days later i'd get my tail stuck in a door or get mugged.... :'(

hey im going there for engineering! im in the u. of u.

university of utah?

<Then again my fursona ish pretty awesome right nao, But like Seko said i would get knifed i swear

then you defend youself and are arrested for grevious bodily harm or attempted murder out of racism or fear
-
Get back on topic, please.
-
ok, so in everyday life there would be akward stuff, e.g. tail+rotating door=pain...
and then there would be the social side of things e.g. racism, KFC, general akwardness....
and then the cons of hightened senses e.g. driving past a sewage plant, be able to hear the conversation in the next house etc.
-
What if you could change between anthro and human at your leisure?
-
that would hardly be splicable, but for most it would be ideal
-
Yes, yes I would.
:c
