Why don't furries have some kind of secret handshake, or some kind of secret wave that only furries know about? You know... something subtle enough that people don't give you weird looks, but something noticeable enough that you could flash our "secret symbol" at a crowd, and any furries in said crowd would recognize it and react accordingly... Or maybe there already is one and I've just been left out of the inner circle.
Anyhow, these are just my musings. Now discuss.

It may not be a secret handshake, but looking for paw prints on people's stuff is *usually* a pretty good indication.
-
Ooo I didn't know or even think about that before o.o
-
Its a cool idea, but i dunno if its neccesary hehe, i still like it though :o
-
My secret handshake is just my tail. xD
-
Ha ha! I have often thought about that myself :P But I think that's about as far as I took it : / But I wear a tail most of the time... I think that's also a pretty good indication.
-
I'd wear my tail all the time if I was to be bothered about it. Even cycling into college with it around my neck!
-
My secret handshake is a milkshake.
:B
-Horrible joke time.-

How about we just draw a pawprint on our hands, and when you see sumone with it on their hand you do the secret handshake. if anyone asks, just say its a doodle or tell them about it if you want.
-
Heres the secret handshake:
The hands of both people extend, the two people grab each other hand and then *here the good part* They shake hands!
How amazing?
Nah, but really there usually isn't much of a need for a handshake, it could be useful occasionally though. It should be elaborate and difficult to remember! Or we could just modify a normal handshake to be furrier.
-
I know a lot of you think the idea of a secret handshake is kind of redundant, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm on to something here.

I see paw prints on several vehicles during a normal week. Being from upstate NY, there are as many Penn State fans as Syracuse fans. When I drive to Anthrocon, I will be driving through the middle of State College Pa. Every other car will have paw prints on it. I have a stuffed monkey strapped to the back seat headrest of my car...

....my teacher has a pawprint on her hand.... :?
-
Even if we did create a secret handshake that only furries knew about, everybody in the whole world with access to the internet would soon know about it as well. Besides, I just look for people wearing a collar like myself.
On another note, the yearbook for my school is called the Panther's Paw. :P
-
im gonna go with the pawprint idea, cause ive heard its the symbol for anthrocons?...correct me if im wrong :3

Here's the thing... Not all furries are so loud and proud. I don't wear a collar and I'm a furry... I wear a bandanna <<; but that could be interpreted as a lot of other things.

i agree, besides i cant cause i wear a tie all day ^_^

I agree we do need something that would just be normal for the shaved things that are humans... but something only we would know... Would love to see if anyone that goes to my school is a furry other than my friend...

yeah...i agree,it would be awesome if we invent something that allows us to show we are furries, but to non-furs it just looks like a normal thing...
-
I like the idea, but a handshake will require two people to physicly shake hands, so it wont be easy to distinguish a furry in a croud.
I guess a pawprint tshirt or something like that is as far as you can go without attracting questions from teh "normal" people.
Or we make an iphone app which sends your gps location to a central server. Then you could notify when another furry is within 25meters.
Kinda like TomTom, buddy,s program.
-
not everyone has an iphone though...although i suppose in some cases we could distinguish a furry through their knowledge of anthro art in a convo or other things only furries could know :P
-
That would not work... uhh, just imagine talking to the wrong guy.. and well, you blown your cover mate .-.
-
yeah...that would be an issue...gonna think about this and post some ideas later ^_^
-
Getting something from pawstar is usually distinguishable, and an iphone app would help for those who have iphones. Or if we get some engineers or something we can modify some kind of cellphone or something to work for this purpose and give a tutorial, although it might be slightly difficult.
Random idea: It will require programmers and web designers of moderately advance skill, but basically we make a furry database, people put there location, age, and contact methods, and then if people are within a certain age and location range of each other it notifies of furries in the area. Now that I think of it it actually wouldn't be that difficult.
Ex. Someone is 15 and lives in Colarado and someone 17 lives less than a mile away, it will send them both email telling them someone is in there area and give them an option to try to talk to the other person.

anyhow, I think a wave would be better. It could even be something kind of subtle, but not so subtle that it's unnoticeable. That way there doesn't have to be awkward physical contact.

By a long shot. That website has been around for over 10 years.
