No matter what I do all my rp's tend to die, and then the remade versions tend to die too
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG FORUM!
IS IT BECAUSE IM TOO GUNS AND VIOLENCE? IS IT BECAUSE IM NOT ENOUGH FLUFF AND HUGS?!
Does my breath for some reason stink over the internet!?
TELL ME WHY CAN'T I KEEP AN RP INTACT!
and for the life of me someone better post a reason and how to make sure that i can keep current ones running

For starters, be interesting. Now, here's a list.
1) Actually have a general story in mind. It doesn't need an ending.
2) Post something interesting and try posting more than 1 line.
3) Stay on topic. Don't disappear into your own world. (i.e. If people around you are fighting, don't pick daisies. And vice versa.)
4) Base it on something popular. (It helps, not a must. Kin Chronicles Realm is proof of that, not base on anything popular.)
5) Limitations make things exciting and challenging. One hitting big things/people/bosses just take the thrill out of any RP.
6) If it's not your RP, follow the rules of the RP.
7) Post more. If turn-based, post within an hour of your turn. Don't EVER skip a day without saying anything.
8) Try to stay with 1 character per person. Makes a person think harder. (Though I will admit that it's even tougher with two of my characters.)
9) Don't god-mod if it's not your RP. If it is, use god-modding only when absolutely necessary, don't abuse it.
10) Though modern and futuristic themes are fun from time to time, it gets very boring very fast. Get some variety in theme and settings. Also a good idea to switch up plots and posting styles.
11) With great power comes a big pain in the behind if you have no downside/fault to it.
12) Variety of character personas keep it interesting. (Not saying you can't have the same character in different RP's, but at least have 2 different ones that DON'T have the same personality. If personalities are the same, it's like playing with the same character, even if you change the name and clothes, etc.)
13).... (I'll think I'll stop for now. I'm getting myself worked up. And no, I don't base these off you. It's the things about amateur RPers that piss me off alongside others.)

well the story things you mentioned are of a problem to me
but them EVERYONE is doing some sort of Medieval thing like you or some psuedo medieval thing
what would I do, make one that's the end of the MEDIEVAL world?
-
well, the reason why medieval themes tend to be more interesting is that you are limited in power and ability. Though some people love flaunting powerful magic, it gives an RP more life should you be without magic, fighting magic, with realistic abilities and strengths, not supernatural. Now, personally, I don't create futuristic and sci-fi because stuff people create (like a certain winged wolf) are almost next to friggin godly, and broken. I did create a modern one recently, but I placed a barrier on it, requiring it to be absolutely real to today's society. Unfortunately, since people refuse to be anywhere near normal, no one posted to join that one. However, people have been bound by those rules in a small number of RP's before, but just don't realize it, because the rules adjusted as they went along, whereas I stated all rules at the very beginning.

You know why your space one died? It's because my people were stuck in your brig waiting for you to do something. I don't know about other people but generally you were slow to post and never really pushed things anywhere.
You know why your survival after a crash one died before and who's revival almost died recently? We got out of the ship and pretty much had to make our own entertainment.
Once you make an RP, stick with it. Dont disappear for weeks, and dont make new ones pushing your old ones to the side.
Also, have a story that doesnt just have long term goals. short term goals are vital. In "Hope Dies Slowly," the first goal was to get out of the ship. The second is to make a meal and shelter (shelter building is particularly dull in an RP) After that, we're just stuck twiddling our thumbs.
Your RPs die because you're not supporting them. They have no structure, no drive, no guidance. If you can't spread your time among all your RPs, focus on just one and stick with until either everyone has left or the story is over. A plant won't grow if it's not being watered.

I hate to admit
and i really hate to admit it, but dang gummit your right... I appreciate the advice Asiabunny
however im always prone to thinking of the long term, but I thought i was posting in the space rp to your in brig characters with the Admiral of the fleet, but in Hope Dies Slowly i completely understand where your getting that
-
and no offense to you, gabag, but a lot of your posts are short and uninteresting. Others tend to look like you not wanting people to finish one segment of the RP. It's like you revive the dead for your own enjoyment, so to speak.
-
you were, sporadically keeping up the convo between my people and the admiral and other military personnel, but my guys still ended up stuck in your brig, with nothing to do. You didnt even continue the conversation. The last post of the convo was mine, and you never replied. I was waiting for you to do something with my people. They couldn't get out of the brig and you weren't doing anything to help that situation. They could at least have been interrogated one by one, or transferred to a prison colony or anything like that. But instead, they just stood in the brig doing nothing.

Well I. Haven't joined any of you rp becase they usually already started and I don't like to join in rp that already are going on. And (not saying that you do it just in general) like if ppl are making a reference to something and they don't explain it like the only ppl that would get it are those that know of it, that just kills it so I won't join. And if you over complacate the rules of join like for ex "to join this rp you will need all of the following"
-a bio (that includes all of the normal stuff like age and race)
-a reason why you are here/doing what ever your doing/or what side your on/etc
-who made you/hired you/brought you
-why they did what they did
-abilities (I personally don't like these becase I think it dosent give the player a chance to make there person fit the rp they'll just put what they normally have and there will be no versatility but that's just me)
-and some other nosense
I think the basics are good and mabey adding a little extra to make sure they are good for the rp but I think when they ask for to much it just not even worth posting. And I don't like it when ppl just put a sentence in a srp its like wth are you kidding and if there are more then one question anser all of them don't leave them hanging and a lot of rp to me seem to repeat so its no fun. And long term gaols are essential but I can underrating about the shor term goals like some ppl need them to point them in the right direcion, and after they accomplish w/e then add to the story I think the creator of the rp should be like the narrator keep updating it. That's just some thoughts o and keep the list short of players to many could mean some ppl get left behind and that's a slow but certin death
