Title: Shadow of Chernobyl
Post by: Arrant on February 07, 2010, 12:44:33 AM
Welcome to The Zone! This RP is based on the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and is designed to be played through the average STALKER's viewpoint. So have fun, stay away from anomalies, and watch out for mutants!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arrant walked down the street, whistling tunelessly until he came across a small camp. He put his handgun away and walked down the trail into the camp, and walked through, the loners watching him suspiciously as he passes. He gets to the end of the camp and sees a small bunker coming from the ground, and walks toward it. As he takes steps down, he accidently turns into a confused looking STALKER, and steps back, watching him pass. He continues down and up to a small desk with a fat man leaning against it.
"Marked One," the man said, turning around, "I just sent you out a couple of seconds ago. Hurry up before... What is this? A new STALKER...?" The short person eyed him up and down, judging the wolf.
Arrant leaned against the wall. "I need someone to tell me something about this place. Maybe get a job, too."
The man dismissed Arrant. "I've already given someone a mission. If you really want to learn about this place, go talk to one of the locals. They should tell you all you need to know."
Arrant walked out, back out near the camp. He followed the trail back to the street, looking down it for other STALKERs.
On the lonely road leading to the small camp, a car went down it at a slow speed, carrying Howl and a couple other people. When they got to the camp, all the men jumped out except for the driver. He looked to Howl and said, "Good luck, mate. I hope your research will amount to something out here." Howl nodded, "Don't worry, Jonathan; I'll be fine. Take care." Jonathan smiled, turned around then drove back the road. With the other men already in the camp, Howl walked in, looking around. "Well, first I'm going to need some supplies before I conduct research in this god-forsaken place..." He stood in the center of the camp, trying to find a place to go to first. Some people walked by him, giving Howl a bad look and kept going.
Arrant saw the car coming and got down off the road, standing next to the trail as the car went through. Arrant walked back into camp as the car was driving, and saw an exceptional STALKER standing in the middle of the camp. "Hello there, STALKER. I am Arrant, new to this place. I'm not sure about the people here, but as long as you keep your gun holstered nobody complains."
On the outskirts of another camp, a naked, silver wolf struggled into the camp and collapsed. The look-outs noticed and quickly ran to his aid. The people of the camp began nursing him as best they could. 2 days later, he awoke and the 2 guards watched him carefully. He tried to get up, but found himself strapped to the cot. One of the guards left and came back with an officer. Korius looked up at the officer, his eyes a sparkling yellow. The officer merely scoffed and sat by Korius on the chair and began to talk, "You are wondering why we have strapped you down, aren't you? Can you speak? Do you understand what I say?" Korius growled a little, feeling uneasy and irritated by the situation. "Is this how you treat all your guests?" The officer chuckled to himself, "Most interesting. You see, when our medical team was treating you, we noticed that you are a mutant. However, you are the first that we came across that could speak or understand speech. You are coherent, you dream, and it appears you even still know love of someone special. We have decided to experiment on you and see what makes you so different."
An anger welled up instantly inside Korius and he growled at the officer and snapped his jaws at him. The officer laughed and walked towards the tent's door. "Hahahaha! You should be happy. Your sacrifice will possibly mean stronger soldiers to protect the Zone, and even possibly cure it of this disease of an accident." Korius's anger grew as he growled more. His consciousness slowly left him, his sight blacking out. All heard before completely went under, was the tearing of his flesh, the screaming of guards and people, and gunfire...
Howl turned to Arrant in surprise when he greeted him; his guard was completely down. "Oh, hello. I'm Howl, and yes, I'm also new to this place. Don't worry about these guns, I'm just here to conduct research on common mutants, in hopes of finding some cures. Also, I am an expert in astronomy, but I doubt it'll come in handy here..."
As Korius regained his consciousness, he found himself breathing heavily, holding the officer by the throat, already dead. He threw down the officer's body and looked around him. Dead bodies were strewn everywhere, small fires starting in some of the tents and a pool of blood soaking slowly into the soil. He thought to himself, "Did I do this? What is this feeling?" He grunted as his head hurt. Visions of the slaughter ran through his mind's eye. He saw and heard the camp people getting cut up, torn up, and gutted. A person in peculiar clothing was there, it was a STALKER. The stalker had shot at him, but the bullets moved almost in slow motion and time had seemed to slow down. He was able to dodge them.
Korius snapped back to reality. He remembered hearing his flesh tearing. He checked his body, nothing. What was going on? He walked around, looking for any survivors. As he came across the main medical tent, he couldn't help but walk in. He found one of the dead doctors and noticed he was clutching onto a video disc. Out of curiosity, Korius picked it up and put it in a nearby working laptop. The video depicted doctors after they had rescued him, apparently they record all medical things. He watched as they checked him and cut him open. When they discovered his mutation, they began digging more and more, treating him like some stupid science class lab. In anger, Korius growled and punched his fist right through the laptop, into the table. To his surprise, it didn't hurt. And even more surprising, a blade stuck out of his forearm. He started playing with it, running it along the tent, then tables and some metal objects. Amazing.
"Heh, have fun finding a cure. I've read some of the books of the Zone, and some of these mutants are pretty deadly... Some of these things affect your mind, some of them super fast running hunters that have tentacles and claws, and the things that aren't bad mostly run in packs. And when I passed the military barricade, I heard rumor of a new mutant. I haven't seen any of these in person, but from what I've read this place is evil. What I have seen, though, is a dog getting sucked up into the air out of nowhere and blowing up. I doubt this is really a place for research." Arrant looked around nervously. "By the looks of it, I'd better hope those books were wrong..."
"Well, I've still got to try. If it's unsuccessful, I can always become a part of the soldiers faction and defend this little encampment." Howl thought for a moment, "Wait, what do you mean an new mutant is running around? Where did you hear that?"
Korius experimented for a good hour, and now he can control the blades. He found he could even shape them. He explored the camp in search of clothes and weapons. He came across a large number of weapons, but all of them unusable, either mangled  or cut up. He found an old chest in a tent near the edge of town. Apparently some people had pillaged some of the deserted towns nearby. He found some black leathers and boots that seemed to strike his fancy and wore them. As he left the town, he heard a small click. He turned just in time to see a guard that was still alive shoot at him. He panicked and waited for the worst, but when the  bullet fired, he noticed that it sounded odd. He opened his eyes and realized that time seemed to slow down, like in his vision of the massacre. His body  burned and excitement flooded his head. "Yes, this is it. This is the feeling I need to control this." He stepped to the side and the bullet zipped right past. The guard couldn't believe what he saw and shot again, and watched in horror as the figure he shot would instantly displace elsewhere, leaving a shadow where he had shot. He screamed as he was picked up by the neck and was instantly silenced as he neck was snapped. Korius pulled the gun from the man's hand and pocketed it, a beretta 98. Right before he threw the man down, he noticed in his reflection in the man's shades that his eyes glowed, and  crimson red at that. "Nice shades. I'm sure you won't be needing them anymore." Korius plucked the glasses from the man's face and threw him away like trash.
He snarled a little as he put on the shades. He went back into the camp and searched for ammunition and came across a black case in the armory tent. In curiosity, he opened up the box. Inside, he found another video disc. He searched the other tents for a laptop and eventually found one that still worked. He popped in the disc and sat back, loading cartridges into the clip of the Beretta. It showed the military medical teams evacuating various cities and towns. Finally, it came to his home town and he leaned forward and opened the volume higher. There, in the footage, was his wife. The van had passed by her as the roof of the old-folks home collapsed over her and trapped her inside. She reached out from the cracks screaming for help, her fur already drenched in a lot of her blood. One of the medical team opened the door, but the others dissuaded him from going out, saying she was far from saving her. He couldn't bare anymore and kicked the small stand with the laptop through the tent. "They let my wife die, and left me for dead. Then they tear me open and experimented on me. They will pay. They will all die." He walked out of the camp, angry and ready to kill. He's already killed 3 STALKERS that were in this camp, and now he can even dodge bullets.  He has nothing to lose.
"The new mutant? I told you, the outpost I passed on the way in was talking about it. You say that you are here for research...? Here, take this PDA. I found it on a dead bandit near the military outpost. There is a mobile research shelter somewhere around here. I believe it is some past a small town called "The Bar". Perhaps we can go their together, I've come here looking for artifacts from 'anomalies', they're worth quite a lot. Although...some of the anomalies are dangerous... Not to mention, mutants rampage everywhere. Some of them have paranormal powers, while some just come in packs. I saw the Bloodsucker in the book... that thing is just scary man..." He pulls out a sausage and takes a bite from it, opening up some Kossacks Vodka. "The food here is actually pretty good, and it's pretty good to pop open a vodka every now and then. They get rid of radiation, suprisingly."
((Btw, I forgot to add a faction in the OOC board, look for an update.))
Korius made his way through the rugged terrain alone. As he approached the next camp, where STALKERS pretty much flock, he noticed 2 limping figures heading towards the camp. The guards yelled an alert and began shooting the mutants, but the mutants got closer and closer. So as not to arouse suspicion on himself, Korius ran at normal speed and tackled the first one on his right, just narrowly missing getting shot. Then he quickly tripped the other one with a powerful kick from behind. He grunted as his boots clanked from the impact. It's bones were hard. Next thing he knew, he was getting thrown into the camp by the one he just tackled. He landed hard, making it seem he was normal, and got back up, emptying his clip to the face of the one with the hard bones, getting a couple shots into its eye sockets and killed it. The guards screamed as the other one mauled into one of the guards, ripping him open with its monstrously huge clawed hands.
"That sounds like a good idea, I wouldn't mind having a friend to accompany me." When Arrant took out the vodka, Howl smiled. "Ah, mind if I have-" Suddenly, he heard gunshots and a scream as a mutant ripped open a guard. "My god...should we help them?"
Arrant looked to saw a novice STALKER getting battered by a strange man. He got everyone to follow him down the trail, trunning into the small underground bunker, waiting for everyone to get in before closing it. "Get in! What is that thing?! I've never seen a mutant like that"
Korius followed the people to the bunker, emptying another clip from his Beretta at the giant-armed mutant. The mutant blocked with its arms, Korius's .38's not getting through. He dove into the bunker with the rest of the people. "What the hell is that thing!?"
Arrant ran forward from the bunker, pulling out his sub machine gun and letting lose a clip of bullets. Wolf (the only veteran STALKER at the camp) goes up behind him with a knife and impales it in the back while it's distracted, knocking it to the floor. Arrant reloaded his sub-machine gun and walked out of the bunker. He looked around, and continued out when he heard dogs barking. "BLIND DOGS!" he yelled, running to the nearby house, climbing up the ladder into the attic, taking aim at the oncoming mutants. As the dogs neared, he noticed an especially dark, rugged wolf, which leaped on a STALKER and killed him immediatly. Arrant climbed out of one of the holes in the celiing and got up on the roof, taking aim and sniping as many dogs as he could.
Howl loaded his ak47 and took aim. Firing off rounds at the dogs, he killed at least 10 on them, then got back into cover to reload. When he was finished, he got back up and began to shoot again, only to have his gun jammed. "Crap!" Howl pulled out his pistol and shot more oncoming dogs. "I HATE these things!"
Arrant sees the pseusodog sprinting toward Howl's back, and fires of 3 rounds, hitting the dog in the skull. the dog continues, slightly stumbling, soon going to die but not just yet, and Arrant shouts a warning.
Post by: HowlTheGrayWolf on February 08, 2010, 12:26:47 AM
After turning because of Arrant's shouting, Howl sees one of the dogs running towards him. He shoots a couple times at the dog, but it still tackles him. Struggling to get it off of him, he reaches for his ak47 that was on the ground, he grabbed it and bashed the head of the dog with the wooden stock. Howl pushed off the dead mutant and reloaded his pistol. "Thanks, mate!"
Korius stepped out and looked over at the STALKER named Howl. and noticed a dog jumping in to bite his head off. He wasn't about to blow his cover, seeing the other STALKER watching. He took out his 98 and shot the dog mid-air with four shot.
Arrant fires the 13 more round into the dogs, firing the rest of his ammo off to scare the dogs away (blind dogs are known to be somewhat cowards), leaving the remaining dogs the the other novice STALKERs at the camp. He hops off the ledge of the roof and walks up to Howl and Korius. He tosses a bottle of vodka to Howl, and looks at Korius mysteriously. "Who are you two?" he asked, pulling some dry bread from his backpack.
Korius sighed as he pulled out a portable whiskey canteen from his pocket and drank it. "Name's Wesker. I was part of the research team out in the last outpost, just 3 KM down to the north. I went out this morning with one of Officer Brassel's men to find out where that new mutant that we found two days ago came from. When we got back, the camp was being attacked. The kid and I tried to high-tail it here, but he ended up getting caught by it. I didn't look back and kept running, only to find myself in another mess out here. I was hoping to warn everyone before it got here." He took a swig of his whiskey and offered some to Arrant.
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
Arrant refused the whiskey with a shake of his head and took a bite out of the bread. "I'm just glad Wolf stopped that other mutant. I've never read of it...and of what I have read this place isn't exactly a safe-room."
"Well, I'm Howl, it's a pleasure to meet you, Wesker. Thanks for saving me back there, and you too Arrant." He took a gulp of vodka and smiled. "My...it does get rid of radiation, I love this excuse to drink."
A moment later, Howl began kneeling down next to dead dogs, taking out a knife and cutting a certain piece off of their bodies. "I need samples in order to conduct more research, and getting more then one sample from different subjects should give me a better result. After all, this is why I'm here."
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
Arrant suddenly remembers a piece of information from the book he read, and pulls out his dagger as he walks around from corpse to corpse, chopping off the tails of the dogs. When he reaches the pseusodog, He begins to cut and immediatly jumps back. "Red Forest dog!!" he yells, pointing his rifle at the corpse, obviously freaked out by something about the mutant.
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on February 08, 2010, 01:55:39 AM
Korius twisted the top back onto the canteen and pocketed it. He wasn't too fond of Arrant's attitude, but in due time... "By and by, we need to reinforce this place as much as possible. This is the closest camp to my research outpost, and I've already lost my whole camp to that monster. Is there anyway we can see to it?" When Arrant wouldn't say anything and walked off, Korius had to suppress his anger a bit. When he heard Arrant scream, he quickly drew the 98 and stayed alert, looking around.
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
When Howl finished unjamming and making a temporary fix to his ak47, he walked up to Arrant then looked at the corpse. "What's wrong, Arrant? Do you think it's still alive or something?" Howl poked the dead body with the tip of his gun.
"These...these are from the Brain Scorcher...I've read these things summon worg spirits, which sprint at you at ungodly speeds, try to claw your head off, then dissapear... And I've also read that in Red Forest spirits of mutants walk toward you in mid-air. I...I just don't like messing with paranormal means... God knows what this thing can do right now..." Arrant took another bite from his bread, regaining his composure and standing up, walking away from the corpse as casually as he can but still obviously on edge.
"Oi, you need to calm down. If it makes you any happier, I didn't take a sample from it, so if it has a spirit, it won't get pissed off." He handed Arrant the vodka. "I think you need this more then I do."
He then turned to Korius. "People come in here daily, I'm sure we'll find more able body guards to defend. If you look around nearby settlements, you could probably hire a mercenary or two to help with defenses as well. For now, let's just stay on our toes and hope another wave of enemies don't come."
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on February 08, 2010, 02:32:22 AM
Before Arrant took a second step, a worg spirit came up from the ground and tackled Korius over the tents and out past the wall. "Agh!" After they landed, Korius kicked the worg off and took a shot. The worg dodged it like it was nothing. Korius re-holstered the gun and brought out micro blades that came through the leather and fabric without damaging it, and came together outside to form a larger blade. Korius felt a burning sensation in his body again as time seemed to slow down. The mutant eyed him, "Why do you side with them? You are one of the few. Join us!" Korius dashed with lightning speed and slashed at the spirit, the spirit dodged. "You lot and those people have been the source of my misery. I will kill you all." The worg used its speed and came at Korius, but this time, Korius used his full speed and diced the worg. He took out his gun and shot the worg a few times and removed one of its claws to make the scene. As he walked back, he noticed a little boy standing by the gate of the wall. He thought, "He's seen too much. Sorry kid, but it looks like you'll be the first." He slashed the child's head off and retracted his blades and stood back over the worg's body as he heard people rushing over.
Post by: Arrant on February 08, 2010, 02:39:34 AM
Arrant walked over to the worg, taking a swig. He watched as the spirit faded away, glancing at Howl. He walked back to the original corpse and took his knife out, slicing through the neck of the creature, hoping to stop it's summonings. "Alright Howl, you're free to take a sample," he said, finishing his vodka and tossing it to the side.
Korius looked over at the child from the worg's corpse and made a sad looking face. It was hard at first, but then he remembered the day his favorite abruptly ended and was stuck watching his wife's. "Poor kid. If only I had been a little faster..."
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
Korius turned, "Unfortunately, I cannot volunteer my facilities as the new mutant may still be running rampant in there. I'd ask for your help in removing it, but it wiped out an entire military outpost, along with 3 STALKERs."
Title: Re: Shadow of Chernobyl
"Howl, I remember something about a moblie lab here in the Zone. I'm not sure where it is, but I'm sure if you ask around we can find directions. I think it was called... Agrepam? Agroplan? Something like that..." Arrant turned to Korius. "Surely you don't believe we're going to just abandon you? The fact that the outpost is dead is just more reason to help you out. After all, you took care of that Red Forest psuesodog spirit."
"I do believe we could use your help, Wesker. It would be nice to have someone like you in a group." Gathering all his samples, he sceptically looked at each one. "Hmmm....the skin seems to be thicker then a regular dog, and the bones have more strength to them as well. No wonder they're so hard to kill."
"I Don't want to set the world on fire...." Began Dimitri, singing his favorite song from the old life his father ALYWAYS used to play.
The Zone, unlike everyone said, was a swell place, lots of fires to start, and lots of friendly people
However there were some not so friendly ones like Freedom, all because he liked the Duty Gasmask.
Walking along this Pyromanaic was, until he stumbled upon a camp full of dead people and psuedodogs.
"Oh dear I always show up at the weirdest possible moment do I?" He asked himself out loud, the solitude already took hold on his mind already.
Korius looked over at the unfamiliar newcomer. Anger welled up inside him as he recalled some of the records he went through in the outpost. Over zealous, pompous, annoying attitude, and toting around every type of pyrotechnic weaponry imaginable. It must be the famed rookie, Dimitri Petrov. I didn't expect to see him this soon. Better really keep it on the down low for now. He walked up to the young human and extended a hand. "My, another lively STALKER. I am Wesker, and you are...?"
"Umm Dimitri... Nice to meet you" He answered kind've unsurely, due to the amount of corpses and blood, that sort of thing disturbed him greatly no matter how many times he saw it.
He took Wesker's hand and shook it firmly as if nothing was wrong.
"So when did this attack happen?"
"Heh, well the other 3 aren't us are they? Maybe-" Arrant stopped as he heard singing in the background, as song he remembered fondly. He looked over and saw a pyro walking into camp. He began walking up, his hand on his holstered handgun. Reaching the STALKER, he greeted him. "Welcome, STALKER, to this little Hell we call a camp. Sorry about the mess, we had a mutant attack and can't seem to get those blasted stains out of the ground." He chuckled at the oh-so-classic joke, then continues the greeting more formally, "I am Arrant, novice but I got a couple fights under my belt. What would your name be?"
Korius looked around as he shook Dimitri's hand, "Well, not sure exactly how long ago, but I can tell  you it ended about 30 seconds before you showed up." He dropped his hand and walked back over to Arrant. How soon can we get moving? I'd like to leave after a good night's sleep, but I don't want to leave later than 9am."
"Dimitri, Dimitri Petov" he answered, "Please don't call me STALKER, that sounds too official for my tastes"
"If only I got here sooner..." he thought to himself
"Where ya guys headed?"
Korius was already annoyed with Dimitri's speech, but did his best to suppress it. It was his voice, not his attitude or the kind of person he is. It's just something about his voice that is so annoying. "We plan on finding the mobile research facility nearby. From what I've heard it's about 4 KM due south. I was going to volunteer my facility at the military outpost due north, but a new mutant we discovered has completely demolished it."
Korius growled in his mind. "i hope to bloody hell you don't." He smiled at him, "Why don't you ask Mr. Arrant and Mr. Howl if you can?" He went back over towards Howl and knelt beside him, pretending to be interested in finding the worg's composition, too.
"Well we can't go south, I was told by a outpost down there that as soon as I came in I wasn't going back. And by the heavy fence they have, I think they mean it. Wherever it is, our best bet is to go to The 900 Rads Bar. I hear they also have a good merchant there. I could *really* use some new gear. These dog tails I picked up might be worth something. And Howl's the guy hovering over the dog corpse over there." He pointed over west, further into the camp.
As the four figures converse below, a lone gunman on a nearby hill lines up a shot on the most heavily armed of the troupe through the scope of his rifle. "Hmm... Interesting lot... I wonder what they're up to..." On the off-chance they decide to send out some kind of transmission, he flips the radio on his shoulder to a passive scan mode.
As he listened to Arrant speak, he thought to himself. Well not if I have a say in it. We're heading south to that facility if I have to kill the outpost a little earlier. I need to get rid of all the facilities first, before I can move forward. He looked over to Arrant, "Well, in any case, that's where I heard that mobile facility has moved onto. It won't be leaving there for another month, and that's the only facility within the Zone for the time-being. The next two coming in next week are all going to be on the other side of the zone, more than 20KM to the northeast."
"Other two...?" he looked questionally at the mutant. How much does this STALKER exactly know? "Well I'm not one to aggrovate the military..."
Korius sighed, "The military decided after the construction of my facility, that mobile facilities were better suited for the Zone. So, aside from running the perm facility, we constantly rotate in mobile facilities with fresh supplies and equipment. We usually keep it so that we have 3 in The Zone at a time. Because of the proximity of the main facility, this side of The Zone gets 1 mobile, while we launch the other two on the other side."
Getting up, Howl smiled at the new STALKER. "Ah...so you've offered your assistance, have you...mister Detov? I overheard you guys talking and decided to present myself. I am Howl, biological and cosmic scientist, at your service." He held out his hand. "Sorry for not joining in earlier, but I was intrigued by the bone and skin structure of the canine-like mutants." He paused for a moment. "Also, I'd like to agree with Arrant, we could use some better gear, this light vest won't serve me too well in future encounters."
Seeing one of the Pseudodogs still stir, Dimitri walked over to it and made a shushing sound. "Relax little doggie, It'll be over soon, and then you'll be in Doggie Heaven... that sounds nice don't it?" He said walking up to the dog
The whimpering hound quieted it's moans, it offered no resistance, finding solace in his words. Scratching the dog behind it's ears, he cried a tear as he snapped the dog's neck to put it out of it's misery, for his flamethrower would've taken longer for the dog to pass on. He didn't let on that he cried a little.
"Pleased to meet you Mister Howl, a scientist huh... tell me what causes these dogs to attack humans, the ol' saying is 'A dog is a man's best friend' Well these things aren't very friendly to humans, I mean look at this place"
Arrant stepped up beside Gabag. "They're mutants. The only friendly mutants around here are Fleshs, mutated pigs, and even they sometimes attack. The worst I've ever virtually met are boars. They're like normal boards but as big and with as much muscle as an ox." He drank some more of his vodka, noticing his supply was starting to run low. "I noticed you're one of the few people who doesn't raise his rifle and yell when someone different walks up. I'm sure we'll get along just fine on the trail." He looked around the environment, chuckling slightly, "Well, on maybe more of a radioactive wasteland, but nevertheless you're company is welcomed by me."
"I don't truly know the reason for their aggression. It could be from un-domestication since their separation from an owner, or the mutations in the brain could make them misinterpret friend from foe. I'd have to have a live specimen and do tests on it to find out more." He looked at the dog and sighed. "I love dogs and other canines with all my heart, it is a shame to see them in their current state...that's why I want to find a cure for this horrid affliction...anyway: I would love to have you in our group, it's good to see an optimistic man such as yourself walk these lands and still keep in happiness."
Korius folded his arms. For one who's been in The Zone for as long as you, you sure are stupid and clueless. He smiled, "Indeed. having 3 STALKERs around would definitely be more secure and safer to travel the Zone with. *yawn* Well, in any case, Arrant. I can't find a place to stay. "Don't worry, there are a few buildings around here, and they're so ruined I would be suprised anyone would care if you sat on a torn up mattress and slept." He looked at all the mutants on the ground. "Most of the creatures here are normal Blind Dogs, and a little gunfire form the guards will scare a small group off. Well, so I've read, I noticed a few Boars and Fleshs on the road to here. In any case, if trouble sparks up the guards' shooting will wake us up and either they'll kill enemies or give us enough time to gear up and either run or get ready for another fight. Then again, veteran and expert STALKERs are another story..."
Korius faked a shiver at the thought of the mutated boars when Arrant mentioned them. "Brrrr... you know, normal boars are already hard enough to kill. Back in the old days, father and I would catch these boars in traps and then kill them. We would empty 40 9mm shells and 8 buck shots into their heads and they still would be very wild and active. I'd hate to get caught with my pants down by a mutant one."
Whistling as he walked to the other side of the camp, he spotted a pseudodog, rummaging around through the trash.
Smiling under his helmet he pointed his flamethrower at the critter and let loose a jet of flame, the dog started scampering too and fro, being burned alive as he kept his aim on it.
As it was burning he began to hum to himself, inaudible over the creature's whining and shrieking, and the hum of his weapon.
Arrant stopped as he heard a dog in pain in the distance. "It's about time we get inside, the houses should protect us decently." He walked past the nearby campfire, the Russian music coming from a STALKERs guitar slightly perking him up as he walked down the short tunnel to an underground room, where he found a nice spot on a couch in very poor condition and flopped down on it, holding his SMG out, letting it rest on his stomach, holding on to it firmly so nobody takes it in his sleep.
After immolating the hound, Dimitri opened the door to a house and settled in.
A 3 room per floor house, not too shabby. But the bedrooms and couches were already taken by some other STALKERS. Rather then make an issue about it, he decided to sleep on the washing machine in the Laundry room. Not very comfortable, but then you didn't need to be in a wasteland.
Opening up his backpack he took out his flute. He had fond memories of this instrument as well, it being a gift from his father.
Inscribed on it was "To Dimitri with Love, Daddy"
He took off his mask, and began to play a little bit.
Korius sat at the edge of the couch that Arrant laid on and closed his eyes. The memories of his slaughter of the outpost ran across his mind's eye and made him smile as he drifted off to sleep, keeping his right hand in his coat, on his 98 Beretta that's in a shoulder holster.
After cleaning his ak47 for a while, Howl took out a mat and laid underneath the stars, on the top of a vacant guard tower. Pointing out all the constellations of stars to himself. Every once and a while, he'd look down and make sure nothing was coming towards the outpost. "If only I had some type of telescope to look at these stars properly...oh well. I'm here for the mutants, not cosmology." Howl said to himself. "I'll need to get some real research equipment if I want to make any progress, and the wastelands aren't exactly inviting, so it'll be hard to find what I need."
Having waited long enough listening to static and sporadic comm traffic, the STALKER wandered through the street of the shanty town looking for a building with a fire escape or something that he could climb. Finding nothing, he moves to the most stable-looking building he could find, which was no doubt serving as the area STALKER HQ. Passing all manner of fellow wastelanders, he finds himself a corner and curls up for some much-needed sleep.
Arrant stirred slightly, opening a single eye to see a Loner shaking him awake. When his concious cleared, he heard the STALKER was yelling "Mercs!" and shot up in the couch, jumping off and out into the cold morning, running up to Wolf. Pulling out his SMG, he asked what was going on. "Mercenaries... Yesterday before you arrived we've been threatened to move out before they force us out. They want our little camp. A rookie STALKER just ran into camp, screaming out a warning that would put Revere to shame." Arrant immediatly climbed the ladder right to the right of Wolf, getting a good sniping position. Looking down he noticed a backpack. Looking inside he found a small Gravi artifact. A stash? I heard of these... Well, it's cheap but it's profit... He suddenly snapped back to attention as he heard Wolf yell. "Alright, everyone hide, only attack when I say so. We want to get them by full suprise, so stay low so they think we've left!"
Korius had already smelt the intruders and snuck away as everyone began gathering elsewhere for their surprise attack. He went over to one of the missing windows and slid down the fire-escape without being noticed. He opened the back door and carefully placed his coat underneath a pile of rubble. He ran straight over to and over the wall, and running out into the darkness, towards the source of the scent of the mercenaries. Apparently, they divided into two groups. Bloody hell. Can't get the forward group without getting seen by the settlement. Might as well get the second group and hope they all kill each other. Hope these mercs can at least lighten my work a bit. He circled around and walked slowly up behind the second group. "Evening, gentlemen. Good night to die, isn't it?" The men were surprised and quickly whipped around. Korius quickly rushed the closest one and held his hand in front of him like a chop but thrusted the hand straight through the merc's chest and out his back. Korius backed off as they fired, using the dead body as a shield, not wanting to waste energy in using his super-speed. At least not yet.
Arrant saw firing in the distance, and sprinted toward it, using bush and rock to avoid detection from all as he snuck up on the fight.
((Mercs are sometimes highly trained. Although they aren't really all experts, though many are, and at the area the camp is at there are very few and cheap anomalies, as it is far from the center of the zone. As such, very many STALKERs near the camp are rookies. Although, STALKERs like the guy in the bunker and the veteran Wolf hand around to point rookies in the right direction.))
The cries of battle were enough to stir the sleeping dog, who promptly rose and sought a half-decent vantage point to hit them from. He settled on the hill from earlier, sacrificing some protection for the view. His rifles supressor rendered his first shot all but silent, at least until it shattered the skull and helmet of the lead mercenary of the first wave. Though not a great accomplishment on it's own, the sniper thought psychogical damage could be as fatal as any wound. Of course, he only had another nine shots...
Korius threw the dead body at the others as they reloaded and extended blades from his arms again, weaving them through the fabric and coming together to form a larger blade. He weaved through the crowd, slicing and double slicing the unsuspecting soldiers. One of them yelled, "It's a mu...!" Korius quickly beheaded the noisy rat. However, as he turned around, he found a gun pointed at him. Oh, bloody hell. I guess I have no choice now. Maybe I can limit it to just short bursts to just dodge the bullets. And that was exactly what he did. Every time he heard or saw a shot, he would heat up his body and he would be the shadow that couldn't be shot. The men screamed as Korius ran rampant, cutting up the opposition. He breathed heavily over their dead bodies, holding the two halves of his final victim in his hands.
Seeing as how many mercs were coming into the camp and other STALKERs were already on the scene, Howl decided it was best to give supporting fire. Aiming down the sights of his ak-47, he managed to pick off some men in the first wave. Immediately after they saw him, bullets flew over Howls head, so he ducked down from all the gunfire.
Dimitri saw the battle was underway, and snuck around unseen by neither the Mercs or STALKERS. When he revealed himself, he was already behind the Merc lines.
"Can't we all just get along? Guess not den!" he said before he unleashed fiery death upon the Mercs, those who weren't immolated sprawled around on fire. However as he was spraying them with fire he was hit in the gut with a rifle. Apparently a Merc ran outta ammo and decided melee combat against a flamethrower was fun.
Playing the man's game, Dimitri only turned on a small amount of flame, and the two circled each other.
Korius walked back around to where he came from and stopped by a creek to wash off the blood. At first, he was hesitant, but remembered that he is no longer normal. He splashed and rubbed off the blood from his fur and his clothes.  On his way back, he took off his shades and assessed the battle. Hmm, gonna have to go further around. He made a longer path around, and trying to find a way over the wall without being spotted.
After three more rounds, the sniper caught sight of someone moving toward the STALKER camp. He couldn't tell if it was a Merc or not, so he kept his finger on the triggerguard. Of course, if he did decide to cause trouble, he'd get a subsonic 7.62mm round through the brain.  "Hmm... Who are you?" he said aloud to the distant figure in his scope.
Korius continued around till he was directly behind the camp where no one could see him and jumped over the wall. He then proceeded to run back into the complex, ducking low to avoid being spotted by chance and made his way into the back door. As he closed the door, he pulled his coat out of a pile of rubble and put it back on. He swiftly looked around and found some soldiers who were sniping by themselves. Each one that was alone, he walked in beside them and asked if they needed assistance. As they hide back to respond to him, he would look out and station himself by them. When the sniper would lean back to shoot, Korius placed his gun at their chest and fired, making it seem that they got hit from the intruders. After a while, he stopped. Don't want to raise suspicion. He made his way to the stairs and ran about, looking into rooms again and screamed out, "Man down!"
"It's time to get off this thing..." After gathering his things, he got on the ladder and slid all the way down. Then he ran behind some sandbags in the back of the complex and started shooting at more soldiers. Seeing as how some many men were coming for one little outpost, he started to get suspicious about the whole situation.
When the coast was clear, Howl got back down and began to write in his notebook little things about this outpost that seemed to peak his interest. Then, he heard footsteps, the men would be on him any second. With a great amount of courage, he popped out of his hiding place and began spraying bullets towards the soldiers. A couple moments after the fighting, he looked at all the men, each one was dead. "I wonder how many of these bloaks we have to kill just to make 'em leave!" Howl reloaded his ak47 and tried to find his allies, only finding more dead bodies. "Where are you guys..."
And if you haven't noticed, wherever STALKERs die more STALKERs come and make themselves comfy. I, however, have a lot of planning to do." The Merc with the rifle and Dimitri with the flamethrower. It was odd, their dance of death and neither wanted to take the first step.
The soldier realized how stupid it was charging a guy with a flamethrower, and was doing his best to try and keep distance. But Dimitri was there, taking initiative Dimitri struck out, as if to stab the man with the flamethrower, but the man ducked and smacked him in the head with the rifle butt. Stumbling back, the Merc saw this as his chance to attack, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
"I just might do this yet!" he thought
However Dimitri decided playing fair time was over, blasting a large amount of fire from his weapon, Dimitri engulfed the other man in fire, the man fell to the ground trying to stop drop and roll, but that just didn't work with napalm.
The sniper lost track of the figure in the hills leading to the encampment, and decided that if it was a merc, he'd probably catch his share of lead. "Three shots in the rifle... Not good..." he mumbles quietly to himself, switching to his Makarov to get him back to the camp. A few mercenaries later and he found himself with a pair of STALKERs in a fairly concealed corner. Listen: It is obvious that these men are after more then just the people in this place. There's got to be more to the outpost, something valuable. He grabbed a rusty wheelbarrow and pulled the side out of the ground, wheeling the rusty thing to the war zone and started stripping the mercs of weapons, armor, food, and any other gear he could find, throwing the items into the wheelbarrow. He found one very nice suit and stuffed it into his backpack. After filling up with mostly poor quality items, he walked back to the merchant, waving at some novices as he made his way to the small, underground bunker.
Korius checked his watch, 5am. He growled to himself, Hmm... I suppose. I'll just make sure we take the main road. Though it would be a surprise to them to see the other half mangled and assume it was other mutants. He saw Arrant pillaging the remains of the mercs and sighed. He just never understood greedy people. Korius went through the weapons and ammunition and picked out .40's and Beretta clips. He took them all over to the gate and sat down putting bullets and clips together and pocketing them.
Dimitri looked up and saw Arrant and everyone diving the weapons. Running up to them he clapped an arm around Korius's shoulder
"We made a great team there everyone, we got 'em all!" he said happily before breaking out into a celebrating laugh as he hoisted his firearm in the air, a few of the other greenhorns followed suit.
Korius didn't follow suit, but rather took out a file and began fixing up the 98. You will definitely get your day soon enough, you retched, loud-mouthed pyro. Your day will come...
Arrant walked out of the bunker, grinning happily. "Made quite a lot from that. And this suit is worthy of some inspection." He pulled out some expensive drinks and pushed them into his comrades' hands, cheering before downing a good portion of the bottle, taking deep swigs as he cheered for the victory and gain.
Howl walked around the camp after the battle was over and found an ak-47 in great condition, he smiled and traded it for his old, battle warn ak he had used all too often.
He scavenged the rest of the body for clues that might indicate where these men came from, but sadly, there was no evidence to be found. So, he wearily made his way back to the others as they rejoiced over their recent victory. "You've really done a good job of kicking back these bloaks, I can only hope we don't have to go up against 'em again. Because they'll return, with more guns, men and hate."
Arrant swayed slightly, holding up a second bottle before draining it. "Dun't worry Howl, I doubt them would ever come- hic, come back after that whoopin' we gave 'em, hic!" he took another swig and laughed pointlessly, then cheered again.
Korius slowly sipped his whiskey as he watched  them celebrate and smiled to himself. Oh, they won't. Because they're all dead already, as you all will be in due time as punishment for your crimes. You and all those disgusting monsters are all responsible and you will all meet your end soon enough.
"Ok, Arrant, you've had too much. Come on, let's get you to bed, alright?" Howl smiled and patted him on the back, trying to guide him to an open couch or bed.
Howl chuckled, "You twat...well, it's hard to stay sober when there's alcohol all around you." He picked up Arrant and placed him on a couch and then sat down on a chair next to him.
Korius snapped the 98 back to its former look and walked by them. "Make sure you all hurry up and get sober again. We have less than 4 hours to move out. I'll stay guard at the perimeter while you all get yourselves together.
Arrant stirred slightly to Korius' voice, turning around in the couch and falling off, the impact waking him up. He looked around dizzily and smashed his head back against the floor to get his conscious clearer. Picking himself up, he shook his head and walked over to a nearby desk, rubbing his head as a major headache started. Taking a seat, he pulled out his recently scavenged armor, examining it. "Holy- Howl, come here! Have you ever seen armor like this?" he looked at it closely, taking a wild guess at it's appearance. "This must be military brand! It looks brand-new, too. Where did they get this... Nevertheless, this is quite a suit (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/stalker/images/thumb/5/5e/Bulat_Military_Front.jpg/200px-Bulat_Military_Front.jpg)!"
"Hmmm...it would appear that you are correct. No person within the zone could conjure up such well made armor or have the funds to buy this equipment, he would have to have connections with either the military or some PMC.  Not to mention, they all have perfectly kept weapons. Take this ak-47 for instance..." He held out the ak he had picked up from a dead mercenary. "...it's obvious that these men are here to not just seize this little outpost, but possibly eradicate the whole STALKER population. But I doubt they know what will happen if the zone is unchecked. They could even be after...the power plant, it could cause another huge anomaly, changing the zone into an even more dangerous place."
Korius chuckled as he heard this. "Or maybe someone actually bothers to maintain their weapons instead of just letting them lay around to rot after every skirmish. Though I am interested in the armour. No one in my outpost wore that, not even the upper echelons of military personnel wore those.
"I remember rumor about a 'Wish Granter' at the center of the zone... Although a faction called Monolith is guarding it. That's all I know, and like I said it's just a rumor. Maybe we should talk to the Barkeep at The Bar up north..." He pulled his leather jacket off and immediately put on the suit, smiling at the comfort and flexibility. He turned on the Night Vision and swore. "Primitive NV...other than that, this thing feels like it could take a nuke."
Korius walked over and gave Arrant a punch in the armour's chest strong enough to knock him about 2 feet back. He shook his hand to imitate pain, though he had to admit that it is stronger than he thought. "Ah. That is pretty strong."
Arrant looked at Howl, pulling another bottle of vodka. "Tell the pyro we're heading out, I'm going to be waiting near the gate." He walked out, inhaling the fresh air (...well, at least as fresh as you can get in a radioactive nuclear mutated wasteland in the middle of a horrific atomic zone...) before heading off toward the camp's entrance. He sighed as he leaned against one of the makeshift poles holding the poor barbwire surrounding a small part of the camp, except for where it was falling off the poles and eventually cut off near the end of camp. He watched as a flash passed in the distance, falling to the ground before being scavenged by bandits. He shook his head, taking a casual sip from his vodka.
Howl walked to the gate and smiled. "Ah, ok. Well, it's good to see your alright, Demetri. And don't you two drink too much of that vodka, it's not like we're out on a trip to pick up women. I'd rather not have a drunken man with an smg or flamethrower."
Arrant handed Dimitri his vodka, pulling his helmet down and closing his eyes as he listens to the sounds of Chernobyl, sighing softly. "It's been a long time since I've last noticed the beauty of nature..." he pulled bread out of his backpack and took a small bite. He pulled up straight to Howl's voice, looking over laughing. "A little bit to drink never killed a man... well, none with a good constitution. And here in the zone it *is* survival of the fittest..."
Korius took the lead as they walked out. He didn't say much, or at least nothing for the first hour. He was still planning in his head for his alternate agenda. As they walked, he heard a small moaning coming from one of the large sewage lines along the path up ahead. As they got closer, he noticed a hand and his eyes began to glow. It's not fully developed, but there are human mutants. And sure enough, right before they passed the pipe, several bodies came flying out of the pipe. The disfigured bodies rose to life as they got up, moaning like lost souls and as they trained their eyes on the party, they screeched and charged the men. Korius growled, jumping back, drawing his 98 and firing.
Arrant drew his knife and SMG, charging the mutants as they advanced. Starting with his knife, he impaled one in the gut and brought his knife up to the throat, ripping it out and roundhouse kicking the corpse into the nearest mutant, slamming the butt of his rifle into another and firing off at another, his gun jamming. He ripped his knife up as he noticed the others advancing, getting a blow in the back. He stumbled forward and got pinned to the floor, shoving his foot up into the creature's gut, crawling backwards, pulling his handgun out and firing off his clip then throwing his unloaded gun at the nearest creature, snarling as they neared.
Dimitri had barely laid his hand on the bottle of spirits when the mutants attacked.
Almost dropping the whiskey, he drew his Makarov pistol, firing a few shots, although none were lethal hits.
"Well lookey here... we got some Zombies" he said out loud before he finally nabbed a headshot before being forced to reload.
One of the zombies tackled him, trying to claw and bite at him, but Dimitri didn't give it that chance when he raised his gun to it's chin and fired, blowing it's brains out.
After emptying his first clip to kill one, Korius figured he'd save ammo, even though he had quite the bounty from the bandits. He approached the first on and shot two rounds in its skull, throwing it off balance and closed in, throwing a series of hard punches and ended with a swift roundhouse, finally snapping the mutant's neck and making it fly about 3 feet away.
Seeing as the zombies kept on coming, this wasn't going to turn out. "We've got to get out of here, don't want those fast ones to attack." He shot at a mass of zombies, killing most of them with a clip, then he pulled out his pistol and finished off the last two. Howl reloaded his ak-47 and pistol and turned around to find a zombie right in front of him. "BLIMEY!" It swung it's arms at him, but he quickly dodged to the left then stuck a knife in the side of it's head. He started shooting at the rest of the zombies, finding no end to their numbers. "Isn't there a bunker around here? This has to be man made hell!"
Korius kept on fighting, fending them off as much as possible and pointed to the ones that Howl shot. "The real man-made hell is that they can take one hell of a beating! Watch out! They're getting back up!" Korius pulled out his 98 and emptied another clip to slow down the mass near Howl and Arrant, while knocking back the ones around himself. His eyes kept glowing more and more, a very big one was on the way, he could feel it, and it's a smart one, too. "We're going to have to pave a way through! Our only chance is to run the rest of the way to town! Don't worry about killing them, just clear a path!" With that, he shoved the rest between him and the path, reloaded, and started shooting kneecaps.
Arrant spun around and rolled over just far enough to get up and drop-kick the oncomming zombie, performing a haymaker on the next one and diving for his handgun, swinging his legs around before picking himself up, running back to the group but getting a bullet in the leg. "Grrr... I forgot these things can shoot!" He started up North to town, bashing his rifle into the zombies nearest him, dashing forward as he neared the back of the horde where the attackers were less abundant, sprinting as he got out of immediate danger, nearly collapsing from his earlier bullet wound but instead stumbling before slowing down to a limping speed, crying out in pain before unjamming his rifle and firing back at the zombies, cursing madly as he limped up the road.
"Alright then, force your fire on the ones blocking out path and don't worry about the rest, like Korius said." He began mowing down zombies that were on the main road, trying desperately to punch a hole through their lines. "These bloody things just won't quit! If only the blasted things weren't so tough!"
Korius continued to shoot, punch and run forward. Good, keep following. Now the first of this group can die. I'll come back later and kill off these menacing mutants later in the night. There were more and more, and Korius was getting frustrated with this horde while trying to be normal. Korius charged the mutant zombie in front and reverse roundhoused it, knocking it into the group behind it. "Fire in the hole!" Korius threw the grenade and bellied onto the floor.
Dimitri wondered where everyone went when a live grenade fell in front of his face. Eyes widening he stood up and jumped behind a dumpster, hoping it would shield him from the pin apple of death. The grenade exploded, throwing shrapnel everywhere, cutting down zombies and impaling them with metal and tearing limbs off where it didn't kill.
"Maybe next time, LOOK before you throw a grenade in my face!" Dimitri yelled to the group as he fired his makarov at the now wounded zombies.
Korius ran full-speed ahead with Howl, "No time to worry, just go! See if you can't get Arrant as well!" Then maybe you can die together, though I was hoping that grenade could have done it. Korius didn't want to think about blowing his cover just yet, so he just kept running.
Arrant braced himself against the pain and burst into a hell-bent sprint, charging into the farmhouse and diving inside, crawling towards a wall and pulling his backpack off, opening it up to rip out a medkit and immediately start applying first aid to his bullet wound, ignoring the STALKERs around him. He looked out of the building and found Korius and Howl running, yelling out after them and gesturing them toward the farmhouse.
Making an attempt to get through the zombies, Howl sprinted towards the farmhouse, spraying his ak47 at the zombies in front of him and diving inside the house. He ran next to Arrant and took a look at his leg. "I was hoping these zombies wouldn't have guns...blasted things are just too darn dangerous."
Korius sighed as they reached the barn house. He slapped the back of Howl's head, "You idiot, he shot himself by accident. Though i would say that title might go to the one who performed that feat." Korius checked his ammunition and reloaded, getting ready for the horde. He noticed the peculiar looks from the other STALKER's around them and pointed out the window above his head. The STALKER's looked out and one spoke up, "Holy @#%@##$, guys! Battle stations!" They all started running around and preparing for the upcoming fight. Not exactly how Korius was planning on spending mid-day doing.
"Hah! Yes, shot myself. Those blasted things know how to fire." he braced his teeth and pulled his knife out, dislodging the bullet and slamming his fist into the wall from pain. Snarling, he held up the 7.62mm bullet and growled "Does this look like a damned 9mm to you?" He threw the bullet at Korius and jammed his hand into his backpack, ripping out another bandage and redressing the wound.
Howl sighed. "Well, that doesn't matter how he got shot, and it's not going to serve you too well in the future." He looked to Arrant. "Your going to need help with walking, I'd be willing to carry you, unless you'd rather have someone else do it for you." Noticing how close the oncoming horde was, Howl raised his rifle and put some rounds down range.
Korius cursed under his breath and then spoke up. "I'll carry him. I only have my 98, anyways. We can use you and your rifle for back up." He looked over at the other STALKERs, "Since you guys have a grasp of the situation, will you all come with us? We can seriously use some help with getting out of here." Though I would like to kill all of you instead, but I'm in no shape for that.
Arrant snarled as he picked himself up. "I don't need support. But if you say run for it, someone's getting a bullet in the spine." He picked his SMG up and limped to the barn's entrance, cursing as he leans against the doorway. "Okay, I could probably use someone to lean on on my way..." he swore bitterly inside his mind as he said the words, not wanting to need help from others.
