Sometimes it can be difficult to find just the right fabric and materials for your fursuit.
Got any particular stores (in RL or online) that you find helpful? Post them here. :)
For help on how to put the suit together, visit the tips for making your own fursuit (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/index.php?topic=14183.0) thread.

Distinctive fabrics is definitely one of the best online stores to buy furfabric. That's where I buy all of mine. ^^
http://www.distinctivefabric.com/
And, everything else you need (foam/mesh, hot glue, paints, dyes, clay for the claws and teeth, cheap shoes for making footpaws, et cetera) you can get from Jo-Ann fabrics and walmart (I really don't recommend buying you fabric from either place. They don't carry very high-quality fur material).

There is a store called, Mood, (that fabric store from project runway) they have a website that has a very large selection of different types of fabrics and accessories. Bit pricey but if you know what your buying and if you catch it you can get some good deals now and then. Plus I like using the site as like a library, so to show me round-about how the fabric looks and what it's called, so at least when I go looking in stores, I have an idea of what to ask the store clerk for.

I'm making a wolf quadsuit and I wondered if this is pretty good? A friend recommended this to me.

I suggest White Wolf Creations. :3
http://whitewolf.denofwolves.com/fur.html
The quality is amazing.
That's some awsome fur. If the white fur stays in stock, I'll bookmark that :) I also noticed the noses and pawprints to make things complete. ^_^
-
I also suggest getting any of the pawpads and noses from Monoyasha. She's amazing.
http://monoyasha.deviantart.com/
That's pretty awsome ^_^ Though, there's a slight problem. She/he's filling up and I have a deadline I have to get materials and make the costume. x_x
-
Tell her and she may be able to get it to you faster. I had a deadline for a nose and some claws and I got them in great timing.
I'll try that. Thank you! :*

I'm back I'm afraid :S
What do people use for foam? Upholstery rolls or something? I came across some in JoAnn's, but it appears it's between thin and thick and needs a lot of folding to get the shape. I'm making something semi-realistic, so the cartoonish look is out of the question, sadly.
-
I'd use open-cell foam I'll give you a link to the site I get it from. I use poly because I read that was what to use. http://www.thefoamfactory.com/packagingfoam/polyfoam.html
The poly foam looks pretty nice. Is there a carving tool needed for each piece to form it into a wolf(in my project, heh) or just put pieces together?
-
Some people use turkey carvers to carve it and scissors to shape it.
I see. :o
I might as well go buy it after figuring out which one to get.
-
Don't cut fur with scissors by the way. It makes it look bad. Use a razor blade or exactor knife.
Gotcha :3
Also, which foam would you recommend? Seeing how how I'm making a head, padding and paws, I may need a good amount.
-
The poly that I linked to is what I recommend.
Whoops, I meant thickness :$ I saw some folded their foam though.
How will I ever repay you for dealing with my constant questions?

uh... you get a pair of thin boxcutters (not the big ones, no point), and shape it yourself.
I generally use what equates to grey packing foam, it's sturdy, lightweight, and very easy to cut/glue. BTW use feather spray glue, best stuff ever.
-
What materiel do you use for the eyes?
I used normal insect net for dragonite and chibis eyes, but it doesn't look good, it's just good to get fresh air
Other people use more stable and better looking materials, but I don't know what it is
-
Well, I wouldn't rule out using scissors for carving completely. :P
This guy here makes it look pretty good.
Smoothing Foam With Scissors (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHHvuzJNeeE#ws)
Some people make eyes out of epoxy, from what I'm seeing, but the actual part that you see through is the tear duct, though I don't know what material its made out of...
-
I mean something like that http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa43/MichaelCapelle/P1250023.jpg (http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa43/MichaelCapelle/P1250023.jpg)
Using rubber gloves for working with foam, good idea. Have to keep that in my head.
-
The pic you linked seems to be using plastic canvas, but I personally prefer buckram fabric. Plastic canvas will be carried by any craft store (it's usually near the yarn) but buckram is harder to find. Some fabric stores carry it, but none local to me, I buy mine on line.
-
Does any of you know of a fabric that looks and feels like scales or do some of you know how to make something like it?
-
what foam would you guys suggest i use for ears? anyone who would know where to get said foam in denmark by chance?

In my country, at least in some of the bigger cities, there is a fabric market held once a week. Usually cheaper and more variety in fabrics there than in the stores.
(PM me if you'd like to talk further about this :))

We have 3D printed head bases and eye blanks if anyone is interested. Free shipping in the US. fuzzbuttfursuits.com (http://fuzzbuttfursuits.com)

I had posted it in another thread, but it might be of more use here..
U.K furs in the Greater Machester area (I know there are a lot of you!) - there is an upholstery foam stand in the Bury Market that has been there quite some time - open most days I've been there, which sells both meter rolls and blocks of light green upholstery foam, and also a lot of well-sized offcuts for cheap. If you are nearby, it is a short car ride, and there is a tram stop; but I only recommend the tram if you are only buying a little foam.. Or have friends to help. (avoid busy times.. Go on a week day if you plan to ferry foam about on the trams.) :nerd:
