The magic of ingrowth nails!
« on: March 23, 2009, 04:00:34 AM »
Today's topic : Ingrowth nails! Let's welcome our special guest, my own ingrowth nail!

Ever had one, wondered how it was? Probably not, and I wish you will NEVER have one. Every step I make, my whole foot feels like it's being pierced by a dancing needle. I can't run, I can barely walk, I can't wear white socks, thick socks or long socks, I have to clean it with alcohol, apply a special bandage on it and avoid wet areas, water and moisture... IN WINTER?!? What about the showers? I sure do like taking showers, my leg out of the of the tub, and being able to clean HALF of it because it must NEVER come in contact with wet surfaces or water. Worst of all : I can't work all summer long because of my age, I gotta be 16, I'm 15, I could work as a life guard but I can't apply because of my gifted foot: No monies> no clothes! I'm growing like plants on mutant steroids man, I gained 3 cm since January. I had 10 shirts I wore frequently, now only 4, and one pair of jeans I got to clean every three days. my socks? I had to put most of them to trash because of the blood, pus and other unknown fluids the body can makestick to them and makes a dry crust on my socks and it dosen't wear off after a ride into the wash-o-matic monster. Oh yeah, if I don't walk, the pain is in the socks. Yeah, removing one tears of a bit of skin and scab it took WEEKS to do so NO healing. Yeah, sure, I went to a specialist. The thing is, they use pointy harmful tools into your toe, scrape off some skin and stuff. Oh yeah what they seek to remove?

A little piece of nail, that could be just measuring 1 square milimeter. HOW SMALL IS THAT? How did I get THAT? Who knows, but guys and girls, TAKE CARE OF YOUR NAILS WHEN YOU CUT THEM, CHERISH THEM OR YOU'LL NEVER LIVE AGAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN. Just three more weeks of healing and I'm okay, how cute...

This sure helped relieve some hate.

Maaan, that sounds bad! I should be glad I take care of them huh?

*Hugs* Good luck with that, Sardoc. I'm sorry for you.

Funnily enough I'm dealing with the evil little things right now as well. :P

I can't walk too far to my classes anymore. I've been trying to do some stuff to help it maybe heal itself, since I can't really afford to take the 2-3 weeks of healing with all that's going on at school right now. I had one a few years ago too, and I had it cut out, and now I'm dealing with it again. It's pretty frustrating. Sometimes it doesn't even have much to do with how you take care of your nails, it can be hereditary, so some people are just out of luck. (Like me. I get it from my father.)

Hehe, thanks everyone, but I doubt you'd want to touch that, Wolf.

Just out of curiosity WZ, when did you get yours? I got mine since October : / I wish I had it on a hand, at least I could walk and work... Oh well, I guess that's that.

I first started having problems with it about 6 or 7 years ago (something like that). I have it to some degree on both the left and right sides of both my big toes, but the one that was the worst to begin with (the right side of my right foot's toe) I got cut out, and it was perfectly fine after a few weeks. It's a little scarred over, but it hasn't been bothering me. Out of the other three sides of my nails, two hardly affect me at all (they don't hinder me in any way, but I can still tell they're ingrown a little), and one of them has pretty much been bothering me off and on ever since I got the first one cut out. It's never gotten bad enough to the point of being infected, but if I ever walked around too much, it would start to throb. Up until two weeks ago, I could deal with it pretty easily, but it's gotten a lot more painful all of a sudden. I'm trying to do as much as I can to avoid getting my nail cut out again, but it may be inevitable anyway.

I've been soaking my feet in an Epsom salt solution, and keeping some fresh pieces of cotton underneath the nails in order to help lift them out. I think it has been helping. It'll probably take a while before I expect any real difference though.

And of course it doesn't help that I hit one of my toes against something tonight and broke off a good quarter of one of my nails. T_T

Well, it seems I have the exact same treatment as you, results too. But I hat an appointment yesterday. I got to start all over, thanks to some girl walking on my foot... Uhh yeah, it's pretty annoying... Some days pain seems to get back on me too.

Its growing into his skin under the nail, so I don't think that will be possible. Filing it?
